About Official Co-Productions
Official co-productions are screen projects which have been certified by the NZFC as having met the requirements of one or more of New Zealand’s international co-production agreements.
Benefits of Official Co-Production
In addition to improving access to international talent, expertise and audiences, and enabling the sharing of creative, financial and technical resources, one of the key benefits of being certified as an official co-production is that your project will be considered a domestic production in each co-producing country. This designation means your project can access funding, incentives and distribution support only available to domestic productions.
Eligibility for Official Co-Production
As our international co-production agreements vary in many small but important ways, always read the agreement(s) relevant to your co-production to check eligibility requirements before applying.
The guiding principle for all official co-productions is to ensure a balance of creative, financial and expenditure contributions from each partner country. Your application will therefore be assessed across four key areas.
New Zealand producers wishing to apply for official co-production certification should lodge a provisional application with the NZFC before the start of principal photography and submit a final application upon completion of their project. Please allow up to six weeks for your application to be assessed.
