In a world blanketed in thick, deadly smog, a woman attempts to leave her abusive relationship behind.
Thick, deadly smog blankets the globe, reducing visibility to less than a few metres. Living in a secluded farmhouse, a woman and her abusive husband attempt to survive by crafting trails with rope and stakes to guide them through the unseeable world. One night, after an episode of the man's alcohol-induced physical violence, the woman is alerted to the possibility of outsiders. She investigates and discovers foreign footprints, and decides to attempt an escape from her partner the following night. However, the man becomes aware of her intentions and violently prevents her from leaving, instead forcing the woman to take him with her. On the journey, the two discover the footprints suddenly come to an end. The man once again takes his anger out on the woman, but this time she decides to fight back and kills him by piercing his neck with a rope stake. No longer imprisoned by the violent man, the woman vanishes deep into the smog.
