The year is 1969 – but not as we knew it.
Two centuries earlier, an Italian alchemist uncovered the basic secrets of genetic science. In the process he released a swathe of virulent diseases which the human race still battles, along with a new race of people – The Brothers; the result of a genetic mutation initiated by a virus. Superior beings in mind and body, The Brothers ask humanity to share only one thing: their blood.
Perfect Creature is a highly original retelling of the vampire myth, set in an alternate version of the 1960’s. Science fiction and horror coalesce in a suspenseful, elegant, action film about race, serial killings and the capacity of human beings to hope.
It is the second feature for writer/director Glenn Standring whose debut, The Irrefutable Truth About Demons, became one of New Zealand’s most successful film exports. Perfect Creature stars Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible 2, Enigma, Ripley’s Game); Saffron Burrows (Troy, Enigma, Frida); Leo Gregory (Tristan and Isolde); Stuart Wilson (The Mask Of Zorro) and Scott Wills (Stickmen).
Perfect Creature, a UK/New Zealand co-production, was shot over 10 weeks in the New Zealand cities of Dunedin and Auckland.
