A young runaway finds refuge with a 17 year-old self proclaimed Messiah in a South Auckland garage only to discover that true salvation is in his own hands
This urban coming-of-age story begins when Leke (14) runs away from home after yet another beating from his frustrated father.
Alone in the early hours of the morning outside a shop in Manurewa, Leke is approached by a young accolyte who takes him to meet 17 year old Siale - The Messiah.
At first Leke doesn’t know what to make of the spiritual leader or his followers, but for once he feels a sense of belonging with this strange army of God. Leke witnesses Siale healing the sick; he is drawn along with the group on the night raids used to fund the miracles. Drawn further under the charismatic Siale’s influence, Leke stands up to a local church minister who accuses the Messiah of being a false prophet.
When the Messiah asks for a follower to make the ultimate sacrifice – Leke volunteers. But at the crucial moment of proving his loyalty, Leke finally realises the madness the Messiah is leading his gullible followers towards. Leke turns his back on the Messiah, finds the strength to return home, and to finally stand up and face his abusive father.
