Klara and the Sun is set for release in 2026
Based on the novel by Nobel Prize–winning author Kazuo Ishiguro, Klara and the Sun is a tender, thought‑provoking story about connection, hope, and what it means to be human. The film follows Klara, an artificial companion designed to ease loneliness, whose careful observations of the world around her lead her to a profound act of devotion toward the family who brings her home.
Directed by Academy Award–winning filmmaker Taika Waititi and written by Dahvi Waller, the film stars Jenna Ortega alongside Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker and Steve Buscemi. Filmed in New Zealand in early 2024, the production drew on Aotearoa’s screen infrastructure and natural environments to realise a near‑future world that feels intimate, grounded, and emotionally resonant.
