Frankie Jean & the Morning Star
After the All Blacks lose the Rugby Championship, a devastated, rugby-obsessed 8 year old girl sneaks out to practice and stumbles across a teenager about to end his life.
FRANKIE JEAN is 8 years old and she is obsessed with rugby. She is woken early one morning by her dad to watch the All Blacks play South Africa in the final of the Rugby Championship. When they unexpectedly lose, Frankie is distraught. Afraid the kids at school are going to tease her, she sneaks out of her house before dawn to practice her kicks and stumbles across a boy, JOSEPH, sitting on the ledge of a bridge. She doesn’t understand the gravity of the situation and thinks he is sad because the All Blacks lost – but, it turns out Joseph hates rugby. He hates a lot of things and wants to be left alone.
After a bumpy start the two begin to connect and an unlikely friendship is formed. Joseph shares his broken dreams of becoming a dancer, Frankie says she wants to be the first female All Black. Having made a real friend Frankie gives him her worry doll – for good luck. When Frankie leaves, she unwittingly saves the young man’s life as Joseph walks away from the bridge.
