Flip is a sci-fi, action/adventure film about a mother and a daughter kept prisoner in a post-apocalyptic compound, who must destroy their oppressor if they are to survive.
When we meet Flip she is living in a cycle of abuse with a beastlike soldier, Helmet. She has managed to keep her daughter Plug relatively safe, fed, alive and so far Helmet has not turned his attentions towards her.
Plug is the light in her life, the reason she has fought so hard to stay alive, and keep her mind. However Flip is beginning to lose hope. The abuse has damaged her psyche and her spirit is breaking. If it wasn’t for their innate bond she potentially would have taken her own life, and has begun to consider the freedom that death might bring.
When Plug begins her transition into womanhood Flip knows they need to act - they don’t have time to waste, if they don’t get out Plug will be subjected to the same abuse she is, and Helmet will have no reason to keep her alive.
Flip doubts her ability to protect her daughter and it is Plug who finds herself taking on the role of protector, attacking Helmet and inspiring her mother to fight him to the death. They share a rare moment of intimacy and Flip realizes that she needs her daughter as much as her daughter needs her. This gives her the courage to form a plan to escape with their lives…
