Evil Dead Burn

The Evil Dead franchise has a long connection to New Zealand.

Producer Rob Tapert first established a production base in Auckland during the 1990s, with productions such as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess helping build a generation of New Zealand screen talent and crew. Decades later, many of those same practitioners continue to work across the industry, bringing a depth of experience to productions made in New Zealand today. 

Evil Dead Burn continues that legacy, returning the franchise to New Zealand and drawing once again on the country's experienced cast, crew and production infrastructure. The production follows earlier franchise projects connected to New Zealand, including Ash vs Evil Dead, reinforcing the country's longstanding relationship with horror and genre filmmaking.

As a practical effects-driven horror production, Evil Dead Burn relied on specialist expertise across prosthetics, special effects, stunts, production design, construction, hair and makeup, and technical departments. These disciplines sit at the heart of New Zealand's genre filmmaking capability and were critical to delivering the ambitious set pieces synonymous with the Evil Dead franchise.

The production drew on experienced New Zealand Heads of Department and crew across key creative and technical disciplines. This included Production Designer Nick Connor, Special Effects Supervisor Brendon Durey, Hair, Makeup & Prosthetics Effects Designer Jane O'Kane, Costume Designer Sarah Voon, Stunt Coordinator Clint Elvy, and New Zealand production leadership under Sarah Spurway, alongside specialist teams working across practical effects, prosthetics, stunt work, construction and studio operations.

The film drew on experienced New Zealand Heads of Department and crew, many of whom have worked together across some of the country's most significant film and television productions over several decades. That continuity of experience enables productions to move quickly, solve complex creative and technical challenges efficiently, and deliver at scale.

Together, these specialist skills, established working relationships and decades of genre-production experience continue to make New Zealand a trusted partner for horror, fantasy and other technically ambitious screen productions.
