A lonely old widower spends his evenings making strange noises from a converted scout hall,
which draws suspicion from his nosey neighbours- but all is not what it seems…
“Charlotte was the winner of New Zealand’s largest short film competition the V Energy 48Hour Film Competition. As the title suggests, films have to be produced in 48 hours. I wrote the script on the Friday evening, had my father record it on Saturday lunchtime and began animating shortly after. It was created by drawing with a chinagraph pencil on acetate, directly under a camera. I drew for twelve hours more or less non-stop from Saturday until the early hours of Sunday, then attacked it again on Sunday for another eight hours. There were no backgrounds drawn before I began animating or storyboarding but I believe the fluid, flowing nature came about because I was being driven by the narration and really wasn’t sure what each drawing would morph or lead into.”
