Brian, 11, is an imaginative boy who is dealing with the loss of his grandfather by constructing a series of rituals. In Brian's mind his grandpa is still alive, living up in space and Brian has a mission to collect up dead animals. The dead animals can be launched up to the stars to live again together with Brian's dead grandpa. By blocking out his mum and following his mission Brain manages to escape confronting the truth that he will never see his Grandad again. That is until the day Brian meets Denice, 14, his slightly older neighbour, from whom he learns that no matter how much we wish for them, some things just aren't possible.
