Ahi Ataahua explodes on screen in a stunning composite of Pacifika. Music from composer Gareth Farr combines with effervescent Mika producing a flambouyant and irresistable dance / body performance.
Based on a live performance, this film epitomises the idea of Pasifika tribal fusion. Veteran cinematographer Warrick ‘Waka’ Attewell has brought together the talents of composer Gareth Farr, percussion group Strike and choreographer Mika. The title translates as ‘beautiful fire’ and the piece’s centre is a blazing furnace. Juxtaposed with the fire are other elements – water and air. Mika performs to, or more correctly, in, Farr’s score gorgeously costumed by Pacific Sisters.
