Congratulations to the team behind Beyond The Edge, which was named runner-up in the People's Choice Award for Documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival. The People's Choice Award nod comes after a successful Toronto world premiere for the Sir Edmund Hillary documentary, which screened in the TIFF Docs section of the festival.
Beyond The Edge, written and directed by Leanne Pooley and produced by Matthew Metcalfe recreates Sir Edmund Hillary's legendary ascent of Mt. Everest. Pooley's The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls received the Audience Award at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, and Metcalfe was last in Toronto with Dean Spanley, the first New Zealand film to receive a gala premiere at the festival.
Beyond The Edge will be released in New Zealand on October 24 by Rialto Distribution. The Toronto International Film Festival was held from September 5 - 15 2013.
