The Filmmaker International Travel Fund supports directors and producers to travel to international festivals and markets.
What we fund
Travel to key international festivals and markets to advance the packaging and financing of film projects.
- Grant of up to $6,500+GST for all festivals and markets.
- The NZFC will no longer support filmmaker travel to Australia.
Who can apply
New Zealand directors and producers with:
- a completed feature film premiering at an international festival or in the marketplace, OR
- a short film premiering in competition at Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto or Venice, and
- at least one feature film project in advanced development, and
- clear objectives for travel; and
- a thorough plan for the trip including meetings with contacts.
Given the limited funding available, the NZFC will typically not fund:
- two (or more) producers travelling to the same festival or market, who are attending in support of the same film premiering and/or to progress the same shared slate project; or
- two (or more) producers from the same company travelling to the same festival or market.
Please note that the primary focus of this fund is feature film festivals and markets. The NZFC will not be funding any travel to international series drama markets (or other non-feature film markets, festivals or events) via the Filmmaker International Travel Fund, given the volume of applications for travel to attend feature film festivals and markets.
Please note that a maximum of two applications per applicant per financial year may be awarded, unless approved by the Chief Executive. The NZFC financial year runs from 1 July to 30 June.
How to apply
Filmmaker International Travel Fund applications are always open and you can apply at any time. However, due to the volume of Cannes applications we receive we take these in a separate funding round in the months prior to the festival.
