Minor updates have been made to the NZSPR Criteria for both New Zealand and International Productions, effective from 1 July 2025:
International Criteria
- changes to the PDV Exception clause to make it easier for vendors to act as the Rebate applicant
- amended section F2 of the 5% Uplift Points Test allowing greater flexibility for marketing partnerships with the NZFC
- general clarification of requirements and process
New Zealand Criteria
- clarification of the treatment of accrued costs for Interim applications
- general clarification of requirements and process
These minor updates were informed by the recent ‘check-ins’ carried out by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage (MCH), and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on the changes made to the New Zealand Screen Production Rebate in 2023.
An additional change to the New Zealand Criteria has been implemented by the NZFC, which will allow the Head of Co-Production and Incentives to approve domestic Provisional applications.
The updated Criteria, application forms and FAQs are all available via the NZFC website, and the Co-Production and Incentives Team are here to help - please reach out to nzspr@nzfilm.co.nz with any queries.
