MTV has released stunning artwork for upcoming series The Shannara Chronicles ahead of New York’s Comic Con (8-11 October), where author, Terry Brooks, and cast from the series will be taking part.

Set to premiere on MTV in January 2016, The Shannara Chronicles is based on the sweeping, best-selling fantasy book series by Terry Brooks and features New Zealand as the Four Lands’ majestic backdrop.  Set thousands of years in the future, the story follows three heroes, Elf-Human hybrid Wil, Elvin Princess Amberle, and Human Rover Eretria, as they embark on a quest to stop an evil Demon army from destroying the world.

Shot entirely on location in Auckland, New Zealand, The Shannara Chronicles represents the biggest-budget, most-expansive and epically-ambitious  production for an MTV scripted series to date.

Written and executive produced by Al Gough and Miles Millar, the series boasts Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Terry Brooks and Dan Farah as executive producers. The first two episodes were directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Starring genre favourites, John Rhys-Davis (Lord of the Rings) and Kiwi Manu Bennett (Spartacus), along with young Hollywood stars-on-the-rise, Austin Butler (The Carrie Diaries), Poppy Drayton (When Calls The Heart) and Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), The Shannara Chronicles looks set to be a 2016 must-see.
