Bryce Dallas Howard gave the audience an insight into the differences between the original Pete’s Dragon and the re-imagining.  Walt Disney Studios President of Motion Picture Production, Sean Bailey, also spoke during the conference and said that the remake expands the original story by adding weight and gravitas, as well as new themes.

Pete’s Dragon was shot in New Zealand this year in a variety of locations including Tokoroa, Tapanui and Wellington and is due to be released in August, 2016. The film is directed by David Lowery and stars Oakes Fegley, Robert Redford, Wes Bentley and Karl Urban as well as Dallas Howard.

Alongside Pete’s Dragon, international productions shot in New Zealand in the past year include DreamWorks’ Light Between Oceans, The Weinstein Company’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II, Saban Brand’s Power Rangers and MTV's The Shannara Chronicles.
