How to apply

You will be able to apply for funding from the New Zealand Film Commission if you are a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or a business registered in New Zealand.

Read before applying

For most funds, you apply by submitting an application coversheet and supporting materials. You should read application guidelines before starting your application. For some funds we request that you contact us for guidance before you apply. Online applications are available for some funds, and we are working toward getting all our funding applications online by mid-2018. 

Limited funds

Some funds are distributed in rounds, whereas others can be applied for at any time. It is worth keeping in mind that funds have limited pools to draw from, so it is best to apply sooner rather than later. 

After you've applied

Applications are considered by staff from the relevant department, and at board meetings. Sometimes we will call on external assessors to assist us in considering applications. We will contact you as soon as we can after we have reached a decision on your application. For some funds we will provide feedback on the reasons for our decision.
