Feature Film Development Funding helps you develop exceptional scripted or documentary feature film projects that will resonate with their intended audiences in Aotearoa and around the world.

Before applying, you should:

- Book a 15-minute pre-application hui with the NZFC production team to confirm eligibility: development@nzfilm.co.nz

We provide development funding to help filmmakers progress feature film projects toward production readiness.
This support may cover:
- Script development (including treatments, drafts, polishes)
- Research and development
- Packaging costs (such as casting, budget schedules)
- Development of audience engagement strategies
Development funding is non-recoupable and provided in stages, depending on the needs of the project.
You can apply if:
- You are an experienced New Zealand filmmaker
- The filmmaker is a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
