Founded in 1932, the Venice Film Festival is the world's oldest film festival.
The festival is widely considered to be a showcase for international auteur cinema and is among the top five in the world in terms of prestige and as an industry event.
The festival is divided into the following sections: Venezia 69 (international competition of max. 20 feature films), Out of Competition (max. 11 feature films), Orrizonti (competitive selection, debut films and indie features and shorts), International Critics' Week (out of competition, max. of seven first features independently selected by the Critics Syndicate) and Venice Days.
