The New Zealand Film Commission is saddened to learn of the death of Hollywood producer Jon Landau, who died on Saturday 6 July NZT.

“We are really feeling the loss of this remarkable and generous man. Jon’s role in further lifting New Zealand to international prominence as a premium filmmaking destination is beyond question” says NZFC’s Head of International Attraction and Marketing Philippa Mossman. “He took every opportunity to speak about his affection for us and his affinity for New Zealand’s filmmaking culture, contributing significantly to New Zealand being put in the line of sight of Hollywood decisionmakers.”

Landau, a longtime producing partner to A-list American director James Cameron, came to work in New Zealand 15 years ago on the first Avatar film and is responsible for the career development of many New Zealand filmmakers as a mentor and teacher. Jon not only made movies here, he often said he’d come to think of New Zealand as home. He will be deeply missed.

Avatar 3, 4 and 5 are currently under production in New Zealand
