The New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) has been shortlisted in the Global Production Awards 2026 in two categories: Film Commission of the Year and Sustainability Initiative.

NZFC is nominated alongside California (US), Manitoba (Canada), New Mexico (US), and Screen Queensland (Australia) in the Film Commission of the Year category, and NBCUniversal’s Wicked: For Good Green For Good Campaign and Film London & Creative Zero’s The Fuel Project, among others, for Sustainability Initiative.

Also nominated is the hotly anticipated New Zealand film Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, for Sustainable Production Award (Film).

“These nominations are a meaningful acknowledgement of the work happening across the New Zealand screen industry,” says Annie Murray, NZFC Chief Executive.

“To see both NZFC and Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant recognised speaks to the importance of backing bold ideas, supporting effective partnerships, and taking a long‑term, whole‑of‑sector approach. Being nominated alongside some of the most respected names in the global industry shows the regard in which New Zealand’s screen industry is held internationally.”

Murray says the awards look beyond individual wins, recognising the infrastructure, leadership and collaborative effort that sustain the screen industry.

“NZFC is proud to support a screen sector that delivers cultural, creative and economic value for New Zealand, while remaining globally connected and outward looking.”

The Global Production Awards 2026 ceremony will take place on 18 May in Cannes, during the Cannes Film Market. NZFC representatives will attend the event while continuing their wider trade activity, meeting with global partners, showcasing New Zealand’s screen potential, and driving new opportunities for the country’s screen industry.

Details of the nominations are:

Sustainable Production Award (Film) – Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant

Sustainability Initiative – New Zealand Film Commission

Film Commission of the Year - State, Province & National – New Zealand Film Commission
