Filmmaker International Travel Grant
Accompany your feature or short film to the prestigious festivals, or take your feature film slate to market with the Filmmaker International Travel Fund. With grants of up to $6,500, you can connect with international distributors, meet potential collaborators, and showcase your work to global audiences.

Submit your application via the NZFC application portal.
Maximum 2 applications per applicant per financial year only (NZFC financial year is 1 July - 30 June)

When
Generally, you can apply for our International Travel Grant at any time.
The exception is if you’re applying to attend European Film Market (EFM), Cannes or Annecy. These submissions are invited in their own separate funding rounds which open approximately 2-3 months prior to each festival.

- Berlinale / European Film Market 2027 (EFM)
- Round Open: Mon 02 Nov – Mon 16 or 23 Nov 2026
- Festival de Cannes & Marche du Film 2027
- Round Open: Mon 15 Feb – Mon 01 Mar 2027
- Annecy / Mifa 2027
- Round Open: Mon 15 Mar – Tue 30 Mar 2027

We provide grants to support international travel that builds opportunities for New Zealand filmmakers and feature film projects.
Grants of up to NZ$6,500 + GST per trip
For attendance at major international film festivals and markets
Travel must have a clear business case and tangible outcomes
Notes: The NZFC no longer supports filmmaker travel to Australia. Series drama and non-feature events are not eligible
Applicants must be New Zealand directors or producers who:
- Are representing a completed feature film premiering at an international festival or market;
- OR
- Have a short film in competition at Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Venice, Hawai'i, or ImagineNative and have at least one feature film in development;
- OR
- Are a producer travelling to an established film market with at least one feature film in advanced development AND
- Can demonstrate a clear set of travel objectives and outcomes AND
- Have a detailed trip plan, including meetings with relevant industry contacts.
Due to limited funding, the NZFC will generally not support:
- Two or more producers attending the same festival or market for the same project
- Multiple producers from the same company travelling to the same event
Note: Maximum of two grants per applicant per financial year, unless otherwise approved.
The NZFC financial year runs from 1 July to 30 June.
