Kia hiwa rā! Kia hiwa rā! Kia tū, kia oho, kia mataara ki a tātou te hunga waihanga kiriata Māori.

Nau mai, piki mai ki tā tātou hui kōkiri i ngā kaupapa here Māori a Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga.

The New Zealand Film Commission acknowledges the rangatira and kaumātua of film in Aotearoa, whose leadership in making, supporting and promoting Māori stories and storytellers helped create the foundations of our industry. We also celebrate our rangatahi, the voices of the future, who will continue our proud tradition of bringing a Māori worldview to the screen. And most importantly we champion the practitioners of today who are forging the way and upholding the links between past and future.

With the assistance of external consultants, an NZFC internal group has been working on an overview for a strategy to support Māori in film. Over the past year we have identified three key areas for exploration and development: capacity, representation and consultation.

We want to further develop this strategy, in partnership with the Māori film industry, to encourage, enable and embrace Māori aspirations within the sector. The strategy aims to partner with Māori behind and in front of the camera, to support the development of new and emerging Māori talent and to address under-represented Māori voices.

We warmly welcome Māori filmmakers, storytellers and community members who would like to help us explore the development of a NZFC Māori strategy.

CEO Dave Gibson, Board members and NZFC staff will attend.
