We support producers to attend markets via our Producer International Travel Assistance (PITA) fund.

Further information and the requisite application form are available here. (A reminder that if you have received funding, you must deliver all agreed reporting and other deliverables prior to seeking or receiving any further NZFC financial support.)

Current market opportunities:

MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Breakthru Screenings (28-31 July 2016, Melbourne)

Any producers officially selected for this year’s 37ºSouth Market or Breakthru screenings is welcome to apply for up to NZ$2,500 (+GST) as a contribution to travel costs.  Please apply via the PITA process outlined here. The deadline for all applications is 5pm, Monday 20 June 2016.

Toronto International Film Festival

The NZFC is again supporting Producers Lab Toronto (PLT) and International Financing Forum (IFF) in 2016.  Interested producers are encouraged to apply via the processes outlined below.

PLT and IFF are very complementary: PLT is centred on the producers themselves and on building relationships and knowledge among all the participating countries, and IFF focuses on the connection between a specific project and the marketplace, making use of the incredible mix of financing, acquisition and sales executives who attend TIFF.  We strongly encourage eligible NZ producers to apply for both structures.

Producers Lab Toronto (6-9 September 2016, Toronto)

Producers Lab Toronto is an initiative organised by European Film Promotion in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation and TIFF. Its intention is to stimulate co-production and networking opportunities. It brings together producers from Canada, 10 European countries, Australia and New Zealand.

PLT takes place from 6-9 September 2016 and includes: round table/pitching sessions; one-on-one 'speed dating'; case studies of completed European/ Canadian co-productions; presentations and analysis of financing sources; and networking events.

Producers need to have co-production experience or a sufficient track record as a viable co-production partner. Applicants must have produced at least one feature film, with priority given to producers who have had a recent film screen at a significant international festival, release domestically and sell internationally.  Eligible producers with a pitch-ready European/ Canadian/ New Zealand co-production, who have not previously participated, can apply. Decisions will be made mid-July 2016.

NZFC will select up to two New Zealand producers to participate, as well as provide up to $6,500 (+GST) in travel support per producer.  Eligible producers should contact [email protected] for further information.  The deadline for applications is 5pm, Monday 4 July 2016.

International Financing Forum (11 & 12 September 2016, Toronto)

IFF is OMDC’s feature film co-financing and co-production event at the Toronto International Film Festival for independent producers and industry executives developing and financing English language projects for the world market. Selected international and Canadian producers are brought together with international sales agents, US distributors, equity financiers, agents and executive producers for brokered meetings and exclusive networking opportunities.

Registration is free but competitive. Final selection to participate is based on company track record, pitch package and the suitability of projects.

Eligible applicants must have at a minimum:

  • one full producer credit (not executive or co-producer credit) on a theatrically released feature by a recognizable distributor; and
  • a market oriented English-language project in development that requires international co-production and/or financing partners.

Priority will be given to projects that have not premiered at other co-financing or co-production markets.  IFF accepts one project application per company.  All applications must be submitted via the OMDC Online Application Portal (OAP) not via the NZFC. For more information, and to submit an application, click here.

Producers selected for IFF are then eligible to apply for PITA (capped at $6,500 +GST) via the process outlined here.
