Feature Film Finishing Grant
What is the Feature Film Finishing Grant?
A grant of up to $25,000 (plus GST) per film to cover the costs associated with finishing a film so that it’s able to be distributed
When can I apply for a Feature Film Finishing Grant?
You can apply at any time if you have made a feature film independently of the NZFC for which there is a demonstrable prospect of theatrical release.
What if I have shot but not edited my film?
If your film requires substantial post-production work such as further shooting, editing, sound editing, visual effects, music composition etc please consult our Production and Post-Production Funding Guidelines.
How do I demonstrate the prospect of theatrical release?
Ideally films will have both distribution in New Zealand and strong potential for overseas distribution.
New Zealand distribution may be by way of:
- self-distribution (a comprehensive plan will be required);
- significant commitment from a recognised domestic theatrical distributor; or
- selection for screening at a major New Zealand film festival.
The number of screenings and cities where the film will screen will be taken into account when assessing the application. The wider the distribution of your film the more likely your application is to be successful in obtaining the full amount requested.
International distribution may be by way of, but not limited to:
- significant commitment from a recognised foreign sales agent or foreign theatrical distributor; and/or
- selection for a prominent international film festival (see the Guidelines for more detail).
Is there a form I need to fill in?
Yes. An application coversheet must be provided with each application. It can be downloaded here.
What are the deadlines for making applications?
Applications can be submitted at any time to the Development Coordinator - development@nzfilm.co.nz
