Getting started in filmmaking
We usually require as a condition of feature film funding that the producer appoint an international sales agent prior to, or otherwise following completion of, contracting finance.
We have worked with a number of international sales companies and offer support in finding suitable agencies and negotiating terms of representation for films that are production ready. A list of some companies that have recently handled New Zealand films is below (or is otherwise indicated in our film library details):
|Mr Pip||Focus Features International|
|My Wedding and Other Secrets||High Point|
|Whale Rider, River Queen||The Works International|
|Tracker||Independent Film Sales|
If your feature film is in an advanced state of development and you would like to speak with us about engaging with foreign sales companies you can contact the Head of Sales and Marketing firstname.lastname@example.org.
We also offer market travel assistance to assist New Zealand producers engage with financiers and sales companies directly.
For more than 30 years we have also acted as an international sales agent for New Zealand short and features films. This includes films that may not have been funded by us, but otherwise qualify as New Zealand Films.
Our sales agency (NZ Film Sales) is overseen by the Head of Sales & Marketing and regularly attends foreign markets including the European Film Market, Cannes Film Market, and the American Film Market.
