How to qualify as an NZ film
We help emerging producers and directors develop their careers by supporting them to gain experience through an attachment on a major New Zealand feature film production.
If you are a producer or director of an NZFC-funded feature film nearing production and you would like to attach a trainee producer or director, you can either:
The trainee must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
You can apply for a grant to cover the cost of an attachment on a feature film with a budget of more than $500,000, for a minimum of 14 weeks' work on the film.
The trainee will work closely with the producer or director - assisting, supporting, and shadowing them throughout the production process.
If you get a grant, we expect to be in regular communication with all parties during the production. We will require an extensive report from the producer/director and trainee at the end of the attachment.
Applications are considered on a case by case basis, as every production is different.
Your application must demonstrate the clear benefits for both the applicant’s development as a future feature film producer or director and the production.
Your application will be assessed by the Talent Development Team.
You will have to report back to us at the end of the attachment, by an agreed report-back date.
Our investment is discretionary and our decisions are final. The criteria we apply may change from time to time but our decisions will be consistent with the NZFC Act 1978.
For more information about how to apply please contact our Talent Development Team. If you are eligible you will be asked to send us a written expression of interest.
