NZ Film is the sales arm of the NZFC. For over 30 years we’ve financed and sold remarkable films from some of the world’s most acclaimed directors including Peter Jackson, Roger Donaldson, Niki Caro, Vincent Ward, Jane Campion, Christine Jeffs and Lee Tamahori.
Our Wellington based agency provides finance via sales advances, along with strategic sales and marketing services. We are committed to delivering quality films to the international market and supporting the development of New Zealand talent in the process. We handle documentation, execution and collection supported by our in-house legal team.
James Thompson, Head of Sales & Marketing
James' principle focus is maximising sales and devising and implementing international sales and marketing strategies for New Zealand films. He liaises with local distributors on domestic promotions for New Zealand releases, handles the overall management of business and staff in the marketing department, and attends all key international markets. James joined us in May 2006 with an unusual combination of experience in both law and film. He worked as a commerical lawyer for five years in Wellington and France, before his passion for New Zealand brought him back to Wellington to study at Film School. Following graduation James spent several months working as a freelance film technician.

James Thompson, Head of Sales and Marketing
James's assumes overall responsibility for NZ Film international sales and marketing activities. He is the primary point of contact for all NZ Film sales enquiries. He devises and implements sales and marketing strategies for the agency’s films and attends all key international film markets. He also liaises with local distributors on New Zealand domestic promotions for New Zealand releases. James has worked in the New Zealand film industry since 2004. Prior to that he worked as a commercial solicitor for a major NZ law firm and was a senior manager at an international legal network in Paris, France.
Jasmin McSweeney, Marketing Executive
Jasmin has been part of the NZ Film team since 2004 assisting with the sales and marketing of NZ features including The World's Fastest Indian, River Queen, Black Sheep, Dean Spanley, Under the Mountain and Boy. Previously she worked in the film and television industry at the Gibson Group, Keirfilms and Fulham Films and prior to that was in advertising at DDB Needham Worldwide. She is the first point of contact for both media inquiries and international festivals and markets.
