P&A Grant

We offer financial assistance to domestic distributors of NZFC financed feature films to ensure that the films are provided with an optimum chance of attracting a significant domestic theatrical audience.  In May 2008, we introduced a new P&A grant scheme for New Zealand theatrical releases. Within the formula we:

  • Pay for and retain ownership of the prints which are rented to the distributor for New Zealand theatrical release (currently at NZ$500 per print).
  • Offer $1 for every $3 of publicity and advertising spent by distributors – effectively offering a 25% subsidy on New Zealand publicity and advertising in the form of a grant.

The following terms and conditions apply to the grant:
  • The distributor must submit a detailed budget that includes provision for poster and all other key marketing materials.
  • The grant is payable 50% on provision and approval by us of the New Zealand release budget and 50% on evidence of New Zealand spend.  The distributor may be required to refund the grant if spend does not exceed 50% of the approved budget.
  • Prints are provided on loan to the distributor for New Zealand theatrical release only.  Additional charges and conditions apply for any use of prints by the distributor outside of a New Zealand theatrical release (i.e. Australian release).
  • Distributor is required to store all prints in a suitable location for three months after the last day of the New Zealand theatrical release.
  • Distributor shall then, at their own cost, return to us (or a storage facility nominated us) and/or destroy all prints, as instructed by us.
  • Distributor must submit a final report of actual costs.  We shall have a right of audit for these costs.
  • The distributor will not be entitled to the grant if the distribution agreement for the film is cross-collateralised between New Zealand and Australia.

Please contact Mladen Ivancic (Deputy CEO) or Sarah Allerby (Business Affairs Executive) if you wish to apply for the grant.  You will be required to agree to these terms in writing prior to any grant payment.
