THE SCRIPT FACTORY FOUNDATION SCRIPT DEVELOPMENT TRAINING WORKSHOPS

Planning is now underway for Foundation Development Workshops (originated by The Script Factory) to be held throughout New Zealand on an ongoing basis from early 2011.

The two-day workshop is designed for those seeking to develop professional analytical assessment and development skills. It is intended for writers, people who work with writers and those who make judgements on story material.

Former NZFC Head of Development and Script Factory-trained tutor, Caroline Grose will lead the two-day workshops, which will be convened as and when sufficient numbers permit in any given centre.

Each workshop will include 6-8 local participants. There will be a three-week gap between each session for participants to complete required exercises.

The Script Factory is the UK’s leading script development organisation. Founded in 1996, it has pioneered professional training in the areas of script reading and script development.

Script Factory Workshop Overview

“We regard the evaluation necessary to produce a written report as the foundation in any development process and indeed very often the first exchange between a developer and screenwriter will take the form of a script report. So from this starting point, we then turn our attention to planning the development process and working face-to-face with writers on successive drafts. We’ll consider such concerns as how to win the writer’s trust; how to communicate your feedback constructively; how to ensure that everyone is working towards the same story; and how to determine which elements of the script you should prioritise for each rewrite. We hope to impart to you the skills, knowledge and understanding with which to approach any development task with confidence, professionalism and integrity. We know from experience that these are the fundamental skills you will continue to call on, develop and hone, as your careers progress.”
