The Budget
Can the $250,000 be used to raise further funds? If so, is there an upper limit?
The intention of the scheme is that people make films for this amount, not chase more finance.
What if my film’s budget is less than $250,000?
That’s fine. But the most important thing is the idea – we won’t be drawn to ideas that are inexpensive but not compelling.
What if I can make more than one film for $250,000?
We only intend to greenlight one project per team.
Is the $250,000 NZFC money a grant or will NZFC take an equity position against its investment?
This is yet to be finalised. But the ethos of the scheme is to hand over control to producers and support their entrepreneurship, so when we do finalise the legals and contracts we will ensure that the producers and their teams are in the best possible position to recoup and benefit from any commercial success the film may achieve.
