Delivery and Distribution

Does it help to have interest from a distributor in place when I apply?
No, it is not one of our criteria.

What’s the delivery deadline of the films?

Not set yet, but you should start principal photography within 6 months of being greenlit.

What expectations do you have for deliverables?
Delivery on HD, with the bare minimum to support distribution be it a cinema run (off hard drives), DVD, or online.

What is the NZFC’s vision for finished films (theatre release, tele-feature, dvd, etc…)?
The important thing is to get the film made – think about what your vision is for your film and how you plan to get it in front of audiences.

Will the NZFC pay for a print if the film is accepted into an A list festival?

As is currently the case, if your film gets into an A-list festival or get strong distributor backing, of course we’d consider this on a case-by-case basis.

Will NZFC represent the films overseas – at festivals etc…?

As with all independent or self-funded films, NZ Film (the sales agency arm of the NZFC) may represent films on a case-by-case basis.

Since a distribution deal is not a requirement for the scheme, how much assistance will the NZFC be able to offer to films funded under the scheme – particularly to anyone who decides to pursue a non-theatrical distribution strategy?

We are intending to ring-fence a small amount on money for each film on delivery to pull together a marketing package. Producers will also be assisted with a festival plan, and release advice. We are also planning to put together some research into other modes of distribution and to approach various institutions, organizations and websites to build alternative ways of reaching ‘non-theatrical’ audiences.
